NOTICE OF PROPOSED RATE INCREASE (Oct. 1, 2018)

The City of Atlantic Beach is proposing to increase water and sewer rates for the first time since 2009. An ordinance for instituting the new rate structure is scheduled for first reading at the Nov. 12 City Commission meeting and second reading (along with a public hearing) at the Nov. 26 City Commission meeting. Both meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.

The key challenge in this initiative is to fund future capital projects for needed system expansion and replacement-and-rehabilitation of existing system assets. The City of Atlantic Beach’s capital improvement plan has been developed and a revenue sufficiency analysis (aka a rate study) is being conducted.

The objectives of the rate sWtaterLineRepair2-October2018Plazatudy are to:

  • Develop a multi-year utility financial management plan
  • Evaluate sufficiency of current revenues to fund all requirements
  • Identify alternative plans of future adjustments, if needed
  • Perform a local cost comparison of monthly water and sewer bills

More information is forthcoming in advance of the Nov. 12 City Commission meeting. It will be published at www.coab.us/publicutilities.

If you have questions in the meantime, please contact Deputy City Manager Kevin Hogencamp at khogencamp@coab.us or (904) 247-5804.
