Twilight Series begins Aug. 21 with Sonic the Hedgehog 

Bring your lawn chair, picnic basket, blanket, snacks and bug spray (just in case) for the new round of Twilight Movies at the Parks beginning Aug. 21. These Atlantic Beach Recreation & Special Events programs are family-friendly; children should be accompanied by adults.

The first movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, will be shown at Bull Park, 716 Ocean Blvd, at 6:30 p.m. 

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy where Sonic teams up with a small town police officer to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik and his plans for world domination.

There’s talent in our own backyard! Brought to you by the City of Atlantic Beach Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee. Enjoy the original sounds by local talent in the Gulliford Hall at Adele Grage Cultural Center. Whether you write, sing, play or simply enjoy listening to good music, plan on being with us. Hosted by Mike Shackelford, local performers transform Gulliford Hall from 6-8 pm with original music creations. Seating is first come-first served. Performers should contact host Mike Shackelford at mike@mikeshackelford.comPrepare two original songs of 7-8 minutes combined maximum.

Host, Mike Shackelford and friends will be in Bull Memorial Park for a concert in the park under the swaying palm trees with the ocean breeze! It doesn’t get any better than this on a beautiful summer evening as you enjoy the music on your blanket, in your chair or standing around with neighbors and friends, listening to the musical talent of local singers of all ages. Come rain or shine. In event of inclement weather, the event moves indoors at Gulliford Hall in the Adele Grage Cultural Center.

Bull Memorial Park is located on the corner of 7th St. & East Coast Drive. 

On Sunday, August 29, acoustic night will be held at Beaches Veteran’s Memorial Park at 1 W 1st St.

Ride, Walk, Run or Drive, it’s going to be a great evening! Performers should contact host Mike Shackelford at Prepare two original songs of 7-8 minutes combined maximum.

Flag Football 

Registration for flag football will begin Monday, Aug. 16, for ages 5-12. The fee is $10 per child. Games are played at Donner Park, 2072 George St.

FY 2021-22 Grant Awards

The City of Atlantic Beach provides financial support for organizations and schools providing cultural arts and recreation programs to the residents of Atlantic Beach. Application for grants are invited from eligible non-profit 501(c)3 community organizations and schools providing programs arts, cultural and recreation programs, activities or events that serve Atlantic Beach residents.

The grant application deadline is Aug. 25.

Senior Activities to Resume Aug. 23

In Atlantic Beach, we love our senior citizens! Seniors, if you’re looking for something to do, join us at the Gail Baker Community Center with your friends and make some new ones.

Beginning Aug. 23, we will resume senior activities to include:
