The City of Atlantic Beach will join cities throughout the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week Oct. 22-28 with a variety of initiatives, including an essay contest and its first Atlantic Beach Government 101 overview and Q&A session.
Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is an annual weeklong celebration that raises awareness about the importance of municipal government and its daily impact on residents. The League of Cities is the official organization of Florida’s municipal governments the City Government Week theme is “My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It”.
“In planning our first-ever city government class for citizens, we encourage our residents to learn more about the many services that our local government provides. After all, it is here at the local level that folks have the opportunity to be closest to their government and their elected officials,” said Atlantic Beach Mayor Ellen Glasser. “We hope this effort, which is part of Florida City Government Week, will be informative and lead to a more engaged citizenry in the future.
