Utility rate adjustment proposed

The City of Atlantic Beach Utility Department recently underwent a revenue sufficiency study to determine if utility revenues were able to keep up with needed capital improvements for the next 10 years.  The study shows that revenues are not adequate to make the improvements necessary to maintain the utility system and keep it in good working order.  Staff is recommending that utility rates be increased 4.5 percent per year for the next three years, followed by  increases of 3% in the following years.  An ordinance providing for these changes is scheduled for first reading at the City Commission's meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13; and second reading and a public hearing at the Cit Commission's meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26.
