“If I Were Mayor, I Would...” essay contest for Atlantic Beach sixth-graders

The City of Atlantic Beach is encouraging sixth-grade students in Atlantic Beach to dream about what it would be like to be the top elected official of their city.

The assignment: Creatively use your language arts skills and civics knowledge to express how you would make a difference if you were elected to the position of mayor. Eligible essays must begin with the sentence, “If I were mayor, I would...” and be no longer than 350 words. Whether it is typed or neatly handwritten, the essay must clearly display the student’s name, teacher and school clearly at the top of each submitted page.

Who can enter: Sixth-graders from public, private or home schools who live in Atlantic Beach or attend school in Atlantic Beach.

Entry deadline: Friday, Jan. 11, 2018.
