Seminole Road Stormwater & Streetscape Improvements Project
August 2016: Seminole Road (Atlantic Blvd. to Plaza Drive) is an
historic road that has evolved over time.
The existing stormwater system is undersized, with insufficient
cross-drains of several pipe types.
The City of Atlantic Beach has begun a project to modernize the
stormwater and upgrade the water lines in the project area. The City is also designing streetscape including sidewalk, landscaping, lighting, a center tree island and crosswalks improvements to enhance the appearance of this primary corridor in Atlantic Beach.
The project was initially approved by the City Commission in 2013. A neighborhood meeting was held on September 30, 2014. Significant neighborhood input was received with approximately 30% of the residents in the project area attending. This meeting was a presentation and discussion of the project conceptual design. Below is a link to this presentation.
Based on neighborhood feedback the project design was stopped to allow a significant additional period for citizen input.
Based on citizen comments, the project was reevaluated on January 26, 2015 by the City Commission. The project was discussed in detail and the Commission provided specific guidance for many of the features of the project. The design was then restarted adjusting the design based on the results of this meeting. A link to the discussion of January 26th is

The construction budget for this project is $1,600,000. The project design is 90% complete. The start of construction is planned for the 4th quarter of 2016.
