March, 2016, the City Commission selected Lewis, Longman & Walker as the City’s law firm and Brenna Durden to serve as lead City Attorney. In her role as City Attorney, she regularly advises the City Commission, Community Development Board and Code Enforcement Board. In addition, Brenna works closely with the City Manager, Clerk Clerk and other department heads on a wide array of local government matters.
Brenna has substantial experience in governmental, land use, environmental and administrative law. As a shareholder at Lewis, Longman & Walker, Brenna has represented many public and private clients in matters related to land development, community redevelopment, real estate transactions, brownfields, contamination and remedial actions. Brenna has experience in transactional due diligence, administrative, environmental and land use litigation. She is AV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Land Use and Zoning Law, Real Estate Law, and Real Estate Litigation for many years.
Brenna has served on the Board of Directors for the Florida Redevelopment Association since 2010, on the Board of the First Coast Manufacturers Association until December, 2015 and is a current member of the Management Committee for the Urban Land Institute North Florida District where she chairs the Women’s Leadership Initiative Committee. In January 2016, she was appointed by the City of Jacksonville to the Downtown Investment Authority.
Previously, Brenna served as a co-chair for the Urban Land Institute’s Reality Check First Coast. In August 2011, she was tapped for Leadership Florida’s Class XXX. She previously chaired the Jacksonville Community Council’s 2002 Clean City Study and is a former President of the Florida Planning & Zoning Association (Northeast Chapter) and former Chair of the Jacksonville Bar Environmental and Land Use Law Section for the Florida Redevelopment Association.
Brenna has practiced law in Jacksonville since 1985. She joined the firm of Lewis, Longman & Walker in 1997. Prior to that time, she was a shareholder with Mahoney, Adams & Criser and Assistant Counsel for the City of Jacksonville, Office of General Counsel. Before attending law school, she was a city planner, working in San Luis Obispo, California and Sarasota, Florida. Brenna is a 1985 graduate of the University of Florida College of Law.
