Dear Friends and Neighbors,
These past two years have been terribly difficult, challenging our resilience and humanity. Now, the world is anxiously watching as the Russian government launched a full-scale invasion in Ukraine – an abhorrent, unprovoked assault on their country, their freedom, and their lives.
Our hearts are with all who are directly in harm’s way as a result of this direct attack on Ukrainian sovereignty, in clear violation of international law. It is especially heartbreaking to see the suffering, fear and existential threats that families and children are enduring.
The global implications of Vladimir Putin’s violent attack on the people of Ukraine are deeply troubling, as world and our collective fate are intrinsically tied together as one society. As such, and as is always the case in our beloved community, there are many people in Atlantic Beach who would like to support those in need. The U.S. State Department has posted information at www.state.gov/united-with-ukraine for those who have asked how they can help.
As we bear witness to this horrific and unnecessary war, please join me in standing alongside Ukraine, its people, and its leaders, and in praying for the immediate return to diplomacy and the rules-based international order that ensures peace and prosperity for us all.
In public service,
Ellen Glasser, Mayor
