The City of Atlantic Beach (City) was awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation (OLDCC) to assist in expanding the City’s potable water distribution system to support an interconnection with the NS Mayport potable water system. This project will provide for an alternate source of potable water for either the City or NS Mayport in an emergency situation. Here is more information/documentation.
Pursuant to Executive Order 11988, Floodplain Management, the City gives notice that the City has conducted an evaluation of a Proposed Action which involves construction in a floodplain to determine the potential effects that its activity in the floodplain would have on the human environment. The City identified that there are no practicable alternatives to locating the action in the floodplain and that the Proposed Action includes all practicable measures to minimize harm to the floodplain environment.
The proposed action is to install a water main along the unimproved portion of the Old Sherry Drive Right of Way adjacent to the western boundary of Hanna Park in Jacksonville, FL. Although a portion of the proposed project will be constructed within the floodplain, the project will result in only de minimis impacts since the water main is below ground along its entire route. A more detailed description of the proposed action, including project location map, is included in the attached Record of Categorical Exclusion.
