The Atlantic Beach community’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day celebration will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Atlantic Beach Assembly of God, 680 Mayport Road.
Birds of Fire Music is spearheading the annual event, which is held to remember Dr. King’s legacy and pay tribute to local community members whose servant leadership embody the ideals and spirit of the late civil rights torchbearer.
The 2018 Atlantic Beach Martin Luther King Community Service Awards were presented to Johnnie Mae Evans, Joyce Freeman, Percy Golden, Timmy Johnson and Freddie Rhodes; the 2019 awards were presented to Dee Davis, Earnest Davis, Bill Gulliford and Felix White; and the 2020 awards will be presented to Mattie Freeman, Orpah L. Jackson and Robert Lawrence.
Atlantic Beach Mayor Ellen Glasser has issued a proclamation declaring Jan. 20 Day Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Atlantic Beach city offices are closed on Jan. 20.
