A memorial tree dedication ceremony honoring U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Randall D. Hansen will be held at 10 a.m. April 12 at Beaches Veterans Memorial Park, 1 W. First St.
Hansen was a Fletcher High School graduate and son of parents who both served in the Marine Corps. He was a veteran of two combat tours of duty in Fallujah, Iraq. He returned suffering from PTSD and succumbed to the demons that haunted him. We are honoring a local hero and hope to raise awareness to veteran suicides.
The memorial tree was donated by the City of Atlantic Beach and the marker is being donated by the Jacksonville Semper Fi Society along with the Hansen family.
The event is hosted by the Beaches Veterans Memorial Park Committee and Greater Beaches VFW 3270.
