Adele Grage Cultural Center - Original Town Hall
Welcome to the Atlantic Beach Turtle Crawl! Diamondback Terrapins are carnivorous turtles with ring like patterns on their scutes. Like human fingerprints each terrapin has a unique pattern on each scute. They use their powerful jaws to crack open the hard shells of prey such as mollusks, crustaceans, and other invertebrates. Diamondback Terrapins are one of the only turtles in the United States capable of living in brackish water like at Dutton Island. Terrapins were once considered a delicacy but are now illegal to cook and eat.
Bull Park remained the site of Town Hall until 1991 when city functions and offices moved to the current location of 800 Seminole Road. Following the move, the old Town Hall building was renamed the Adele Grage Community Center in honor of longtime City Clerk Adele Grage. In the late 1990s and the early 2000s, a master plan for the park was created and implemented resulting in upgrades to landscaping and playground equipment as well as a new amphitheater area, new parking, and open space for events. In 2002, Adele Grage Community Center was renamed again to Adele Grage Cultural Center following major renovations that added community rooms, a resource center, gallery, verandas and new restrooms.
The very tall Sylvester Palm near the mini amphitheater is left over from the majestic colonnade that connected Florida’s East Coast Railway to the opulent Continental Hotel.
